Thank you for your interest in becoming a volunteer with the Western Taney County Fire Protection District. This page will inform you of the application, testing, and training process for all interested people who wish to volunteer for the fire district.

What's it take to join us? Take a look around the website and when you are ready you will need to complete these steps:

  • Fill out the application
  • Complete a background check
  • Pass a physical exam
  • Pass a written exam
  • Pass a physical agility test

The physical agility test is designed to evaluate each individual's ability to perform routine tasks associated with firefighting. The written test also evaluates basic skills and also evaluates if you have aptitudes that will allow a candidate to work in a firefighting environment.

Once you have successfully completed the application and testing process, you will participate in 2 weekends of recruit academy with a 1 week break in between. During this time, recruits will learn basic firefighting skills and practice those skills to become proficient enough to perform on real emergencies in the field.

Upon successful completion of the application process, testing, and recruit academy, you will be recognized for your accomplishments during a formal graduation ceremony and become an fully functioning member of the Western Taney County Fire Protection District.
